Dream it. In 1990, four friends got together to start a contract publishing company. With backgrounds in journalism and design they combined their skills to form Itera Gazette. Their timing could not have been better: Thanks to the desktop publishing revolution, which allowed anyone with a PC and working knowledge of publishing software to produce quality material, their business began to grow.
According to Einar Strømstad, one of Itera Gazette’s founders, the early success of the company was both a reflection their daring and innovative approach to design and the quality of the content they produced. “We worked very hard but it never felt like work,” he says. “From the beginning, we recognized that maintaining a positive, exciting and fun work environment not stimulated our creativity, but inspired our clients to think differently.”
Plan it.
As Itera Gazette’s reputation grew, they began to attract larger clients, including the Norwegian Agency for Development Cooperation (NORAD) and Freia, a leading confectioner based in Norway. They added staff, recruiting individuals who shared their vision for innovative design and quality content. Their work with larger clients helped Itera Gazette develop new skills in external and internal corporate communications. Quick to recognize the impact of the Internet on corporate communications, they built up an in-house team devoted to developing web solutions.
Strømstad says that managing the speed of Itera Gazette’s remarkable growth was a challenge. “We not only added staff but developed new services such as consulting, web development and English language services,” he says. “But we were always careful to maintain the core elements of Itera Gazette’s unique identity.”
Do it. Today, Itera Gazette is one of Norway’s leading providers of corporate communications services, including contract publishing, web development and communications consulting. Based in downtown Oslo, Itera Gazette has 50 employees serving many Norwegian-based multinationals, including Telenor, Orkla, Nera, Petroleum Geo- Services and Norsk Hydro. In addition, Itera Gazette provides services to many public organizations, such as the Norwegian Ministry of Defense, and a broad range of domestic customers operating in different market segments. And yet despite seismic changes in the market and the speed of Itea Gazette’s growth over the last decade the company remains true to its core values: Daring, Passion, Respect.
